    About seven persons reportedly died in a fatal accident that occurred at a popular roundabout connecting Ring Road 3 and the Stadium Road at Nung Oku Junction of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

    Eyewitnesses said the accident which occured Friday night involved a Toyota Corolla car that veered off the road and rammed into bystanders waiting for Keke and commercial vehicles as well as roadside sellers.

    Leadership newspaper correspondent learnt that among the victims was a popular roadside bean cake ‘akara’ hawker nicknamed ‘‘Mma Akara,’’ who was cleared off the spot when the car summersaulted.

    “The fatal car accident has claimed several lives, including a well-known roadside hawker, popularly called Mma Akara.

    “Mma Akara was loved by many for selling akara late into the night at Nung Oku junction. She lost her life on Friday night when a Toyota Corolla veered off the road, crashed, and somersaulted.

     “The crash happened so sudden leaving no chance to nearby traders and passers-by to escape.

    “It’s deeply sad and very sorrowful that we lost these number of lives unexpectedly including Mma Akara, a hardworking woman whose akara business had served the community for years,” an eyewitness, Imaobong Udoh, a pear hawker lamented.

    Speaking to our correspondent, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Akwa Ibom Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Paul James confirmed the accident, but said the Command was yet to get full details on the actual number of fatalities.
