Akwa Ibom State Ministry Information and Strategy has digitalised the preservation of sensitive information and historical materials of successive administrations with the installation of state-the-art digital archival system in the state.
Speaking during assessment of the digital components at the new archival workstation in the ministry, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said the move would revolutionise the preservation of sensitive materials and enhance safety and global accessibility of historical materials of successive administrations in the state.
“I want to commend every single Commissioner who served before me for ensuring that these materials were excellently kept.
‘‘Therefore, with the digital archival system that we are installing now, even if this building is to be affected with something as serious as fire, we can simply retrieve those materials from the cloud which makes the system safer and more resilient to other incidences.”
“This effort can also earn some revenue to the state because they are a lot of researchers who want to know a lot about the state, and these are primary sources of materials for such researchers.”
Mrs. Eunice Egharevba, the Director of Archives in the Ministry, said the installation which has been ongoing since November last year, was aimed at transitioning the Directorate from analog to digital system for effective archiving of government materials.
Meanwhile, Ubokobong Akpan, the project manager, said that the hi-tech components used in the analog to digital transitioning are user-friendly with high-speed network access storage infrastructure.
According to Akpan, the process has met international standard because it captures very sensitive materials and preserve them in such a way that the ministry will have CR capabilities as well as control over the speed-link Wi-Fi and drive failure.
