A member of the House of Representatives from Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Unyime Idem, has empowered 150 young persons with new Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop computers and cash grants.
The presentation was done at the end of a three-day intensive training on Digital Marketing and E-business Development held in Uyo for young people from Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency.
Idem sponsored the all-expense paid training, which covered hotel accommodation and three-square meals as a way of boosting the trainees’ digital and entrepreneurial skills to reduce unemployment and dependence on white collar job.
Represented by a former member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Okoko, at the closing ceremony on Saturday, March 14, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Procurement reiterated that the training and empowerment programme was to equip them with the requisite skill set to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.

According to him, ‘‘It will give me great joy to see these youths who have been adequately trained in digital marketing strategies, online branding, social media business management, e-commerce operations and other aspects of e-business development, establish and grow sustainable online businesses as well as make great impact.
The Ukanafun-born parliamentarian commended Oldbosom Nigeria Limited, for doing a thorough job of empowering the trainees with valuable skills, hoping that the investment of the team members would undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the trainees and the constituency.
On his part, the Managing Director of Oldbosom Nigeria Limited, Mr. Michael Adewole, applauded the trainees for their attentiveness and involvement in the course of the exercise, stressing that the skills acquired will open doors to new opportunities, enhance employability, and foster innovation.
In their separate reactions, the beneficiaries thanked to Idem who is an ICT expert for sponsoring the training, promising to deploy the skills gained profitably for life sustenance.
