Abdul Maikaba has gone one step closer to saving the jobs of his back room staff following Plateau United’s 3-0 win over visiting Akwa United in the NPFL at the Jos Stadium on Sunday.
The club’s owner, Plateau State Government had, last week, issued a two-match win or get sacked ultimatum to the technical crew of the team starting from this weekend’s game against table topping Akwa United.
Team Manager, Abel Iliya and the Chief Coach, Audu Isa Pele as well as other assistant coaches will lose their jobs should the team fail to win their next pair of league matches.
Although the head Coach Maikaba was exonerated from the team’s poor run this season, he has vowed to turn things around on the pitch with the team’s performance.
A first-half goal from Jesse Akila was followed, in the second half by Bernard Ovoke and Amos Gyang’s strikes to hand the 2017 league winners an emphatic win.
Despite the win, Plateau United are still in the relegation battle, placed 9th in group B with 19 points.
Next for the team is a trip to the Sani Abacha Stadium to face Kano Pillars. Pillars incidentally were held 1-1 by Gombe on match day 15.
Despite the loss, Akwa United still top Group B in NPFL log with 28 points in match 16 while El-Kanemi Warriors trail with 28 points on goals aggregate.
However, Nassarawa United thrashed El-Kanemi Warriors by 5-1.
