A 37-year-old imposter medical doctor arrested by Akwa Ibom State Police and now in detention is facing prosecution over alleged impersonation.
The suspected medical doctor, Promise Chukwuemeka Anyanwu from Abia State, was arrested by the SWAT Squad of Akwa Ibom Police Command.
The bearded suspect, who was caught with a stethoscope and laptop, is said to be specialising in obtaining goods under false pretense and staying in hotels, and thereafter giving fake bank credit alerts to those concerned.
Addressing a mini press conference at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia in Uyo Local Government Area on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, said the suspect has confessed to the crime and is helping the police.
Durosinmi said ‘‘On 3/5/2023, at about 11:05pm, in a coordinated operation, the duo of Enyeneokpo Ubeh of Ikot Antia Village and Gabriel Essien of Ndon Ebom village, both in Uruan LGA were arrested by operatives of the Anti-Narcotics Squad of the Command for vandalizing and stealing part of the airport gate facing the Okobo axis of the Victor Attah International Airport.
‘‘Some of the vandalized parts have been recovered and efforts are being made to arrest other fleeing gang members.’’
‘‘All Suspects will be charged to court at the completion of investigation.
‘‘As a Command, in line with the directives of the current IGP to flush out criminal elements, we remain committed to providing the best of Policing Services for the good people of Akwa Ibom State in line with international best practices.’’
He thanked the Inspector-General of Police, acting IGP Alukayode Adeolu Egbetokun for giving them the right direction for effective policing.
The Commissioner of Police also commended the government of Akwa Ibom State for support, sister security agencies for the robust synergy and the good people of the State for the trust and partnership.
