Arsenal have defeated an in-form AC Milan side 2 – 0 at the San Siro in their Europa League round of 16 clash.
The Gunners came into the clash from a very poor run of form that saw them lose four games on the bounce, which include a back to back 3 – 0 defeat to Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Europa League from all indications seem the only hope of making the Champions League for Arsene Wenger and his side showed that zeal in the 15th minute as Mesut Ozil played a pass to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, whose deflected shot from inside the box goes past the helpless Gianluigi Donnarumma to make it 0 – 1 in favour of Arsenal.
And Arsenal showed yet their resolve to keep their lead in the fourth minute of first half extra time as Mesut Ozil passed to Aaron Ramsey, who got one-on-one with the keeper. His dummy grounded the keeper and he has a simple task lifting the ball over him into the net. And at the end of the first 45 minutes it was Arsenal that walked into the tunnel the happier side with a comfortable two goal lead.
The host came out in full in the second half trying to at least put one back but Arsenal held strong to their lead, and at the end of full time it was AC Milan 0 Arsenal 2. With this scoreline it means that Arsenal will be in a comfortable position when they welcome AC Milan to the Emirates in a fortnight time.
