Gunnersaurus made an emotional return to Arsenal as fans were welcomed back to the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening.
Arsenal’s official mascot was let go by the club as part of cost-cutting measures in October.
However, he was back, along with 2,000 fans for the first time since March for the Gunners’ Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna.
The coronavirus pandemic has prevented fans from attending football matches for most of the year.
However, in line with government rules, Arsenal have been allowed to admit 2,000 supporters into the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta’s side will be hoping to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Europa League, having won their first four group games.
The competition has been a welcome distraction for Arsenal given they have won just once in their last six Premier League matches to leave them in 14th place.
And Arteta has asked Arsenal fans to try to lift the team on their return.
He said: “I expect them to be very supportive of the team, because in the end it’s the only way to get out of this situation.
“It’s not a secret. When you see the top teams, the stable teams that win trophies, how [fans] act towards the team, name me one where they go against the team.
“I haven’t seen it, so the only way to do it is with them and we need them.”
