L’Oreal heiress, Liliane Bettencourt, the world’s richest woman, is dead. Aged 94, Bettencourt passed away in the early hours of Thursday after suffering from dementia at her old age. Francoise Bettencourt Meyersin, who shared the sad new, noted that the cosmetics giant’s principal shareholder died last night at the “Liliane Bettencourt, her home. “She would have been 95 on October 21. My mother left peacefully,” Mrs Bettencourt-Meyers said in a statement. A 40-year-old man stabbed himself and then jumped into a well on Tuesday at Rijiyar Zaki Quarters of Ungogo Local Government Area, Kano, officials reported. Director of Kano State Fire Service, Mustafa Rilwan, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the man, Balarabe Adamu, was rescued from the well before he later died at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano. He said a neighbour raised the alarm and informed the state fire service that Adamu had jumped into the well after stabbing himself.

A powerful earthquake has killed more than 200 people and brought down several buildings in Mexico’s capital city and surrounding states. The 7.1 magnitude quake occurred after many in Mexico City had taken part in an earthquake drill to mark the 32nd anniversary of the earthquake that killed up to10,000 in 1985.
