The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has won a commanding majority of the ninth Senate to be inaugurated on June 9, 2019. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, March 9, conducted governorship elections across 29 out of 36 states across Nigeria and state House of Assembly elections across the country. The fate of Imo West Senatorial District is hanging on the balance as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed the name of Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha from the list of newly elected senators published on its website. Ahead of litigation that will arise from the 2019 general elections, Justice Tanko Muhammad, the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Monday urged judges across the federation to protect the interest of the citizens. The Federal Government, Monday, explained why it would pursue the six-count charge initiated against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, to its logical conclusion. The government, through its lawyer, Mr. Aliyu Umar, SAN, insisted that Justice Onnoghen, who was suspended from office by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 25, acted in breach of the oath he took as a public officer. The Nigerian Army has warned foreign governments against interfering in Nigeria’s domestic issues, describing a statement credited to the United Kingdom which accused the military of undue involvement in the governorship election in Rivers State as baseless, untrue and capable of misleading unsuspected members of the public.
