The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has bowed to pressure by lifting ban on political campaigns in the country. By this, political parties are free to resume rallies, house-to-house campaign and airing of jingles in electronics and print mass media. Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman slammed the ban on Saturday during a meeting with stakeholders mainly leaders of the different political parties and foreign observers in Abuja. The National Assembly has postponed the resumption of plenary earlier scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, to Tuesday, February 26. A statement on Sunday issued by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, explained that the shift in the resumption date was due to the postponement of the Presidential/National Assembly elections by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The statement reads “This is to inform all distinguished senators and honourable members that resumption of plenary session earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 19th February 2019 has been postponed to Tuesday, 26th February 2019 due to the postponement of the national elections.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will register not less than 1.8 million candidates for its 2019 UTME by the end of the registration exercise scheduled for February 21. The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.
