The economic impact of the violence against children in Nigeria is estimated at USD$6.1 billion. This was contained in a report launched jointly by UNICEF and the Federal Government, under the leadership of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie, has knocked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over the outcome of February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections. Okogie said elections were supposed to be veritable link to strengthen democracy, lamenting that was a far cry from such ideals.
