Specifically, the IGP, in his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/554/2018, prayed the court to bar the Senate from taking further steps with regards to a resolution it reached on May 9, wherein it purportedly passed a vote of no confidence on him. It will be recalled that Senate had in the said resolution, declared the police boss as unfit for any public office, following his repeated refusal to appear before it to answer questions pertaining to the spate of killings across the country and the inhuman treatment allegedly meted out on the lawmaker representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye. Insisting that the…
The brick-bat between the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the Police over Offa bank robbery continued Thursday as the former said the latter had received his response in written form. Saraki’s tweet came barely 24 hours after the police insisted on Wednesday that he must appear in person to answer questions over his roll in the robbery incident which claimed 33 lives, including nine policemen. “In line with their request, earlier today, the police received my response to their letter on the investigation into the Offa robbery case,” the Senate President tweeted Thursday. But while parading two more suspects arrested…
A mild drama ensued during the confirmation of Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the Senate Wednesday as Kabiru Marafa, the senator representing Zamfara Central, accused his colleague, Sulieman Nazif, of compromise. Nazif is the chairman of Senate Committee in INEC which, Wednesday, recommended the rejection of one of the four RECs, Ahmed Bello Mahmud seeking confirmation by the Senate. Trouble started after Senatro Nazif told the Senate that Mahmud was rejected by his committee, based on a petition received by the committee. Apparently incensed by Nazif’s statement, Senator Marafa protested the rejection of Mahmud,…

The House of Representatives has directed its Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru constituency in Kano State, for allegedly misrepresenting the chamber in respect of the ongoing rift between the National Assembly and the executive arm of government. Jibrin could be suspended from the House of Representatives, if found guilty of the fresh allegations against him. A joint executive session of both chambers of the National Assembly met on Tuesday and urged the President Buhari to address some issues or face the invocation of the powers of the legislature. Reacting to the resolutions…
The Police Wednesday denied withdrawing its earlier invitation to Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, to appear before the Force Intelligence Response Team, in Abuja, to answer questions over his alleged involvement in Offa bank robbery and the gruesome killings of over 33 people in Kwara State by some political thugs loyal to him. The police insisted that contrary to the claim by the Senate President that its invitation to him had been withdrawn, nothing of such emanated from them. This came on a day the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye Mufutau Gbadamosi, said his people would not be party…
President Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday, attributed his loss three times in the previous general elections to rigging and election manipulations in the country. Buhari speaking at a valedictory session in honour of Dr. Fayemi Kayode, erstwihile Minister of Mines and Steel Development who resigned from the cabinet last week to face his election, said that the introduction of technology, especially the use of Permanent Voters Cards, PVC, and the Card Readers saved him from another humiliation. He, therefore, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to embark on voters’ education on the use of electronic devices. The President, however, said he…
