Akwa Ibom people are groaning over the difficulties and the sky rocketing prices of items facing them as a result of buying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol above government-approved pump price of N145 a litre in the state for the past two months. An under-age driver fled after reportedly killing three persons as a result of alleged reckless driving in Gusau, Zamfara State, Zamfara Police Command has confirmed. One of the victims was a female and a final-year student at the state-owned School of Nursing and Midwifery. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, an indigenous oil giant in Rivers State has awarded scholarships to 374 students in its host communities. The company, Belemaoil Producing Limited in a Joint Venture, JV, with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, put the scholarships in three categories: Post-Graduate, Undergraduate and Post-Primary. Of the 374 beneficiaries, 175 are under-graduates, 78 post-graduates while 121 of them are post-primary students. Akwa Ibom State government has admitted that the two industries inaugurated last year in Onna local government area of the state are owned by private investors. The industries- syringe factory and Electric Metering Factory- were inaugurated by Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in September, last year, as part of the activities that marked the 30th anniversary of the state. The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspects in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State over alleged kidnapping of a nine-year-old child and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. The suspects: Bello Musa, 27, gang leader; Ibrahim Rere, 70, Musa Sani, 33, Isa Aliyu, 50 and Hudu Yahaya, 35 were said to have kept Hadiza Husseini, the victim in the house of one of the suspects. A 29-year-old brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attempting to steal a three-year-old child from her school faces 14 years of imprisonment if found guilty.
