The following day, when the victim was playing with her friends, Okoroafor reportedly took her into his apartment and raped her again. It was gathered that the girl’s mother,…
President Donald Trump of the United States has told President Muhammau Buhari that his country will not accept the killing of Christians. Trump said this Monday while playing host to his Nigerian counterpart at the White House, noted, “We have had very serious problems with Christians who are being murdered in Nigeria, we are going to be working on that problem very, very hard because we cannot allow that to happen,” Trump said. The US president also asked the Nigerian authorities to “protect innocent civilians of all faiths, including Muslims and including Christians”. On his part, Buhari said is working…
Many Nigerian youths are getting alarmingly addicted to cough syrup with codeine, a medicine that has become a street drug, a sweet strawberry taste that makes one high. The codeine addiction is more rampant among the youths in the northern part of the country. BBC Africa, in an investigative report, captures the devastating effects of the codeine addiction in Nigeria, particularly the northern part. “It is not hard to find Nigeria’s boys getting their syrups high. It is not hard to get Nigeria’s syrup girls either. Even religious women drink it. “Vast quantities are seized and destroyed by the government…
Lewis Hamilton took the win but it is unlikely to be a favoured memory. He inherited first place with two laps to go from his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who had looked nailed on for the victory until a puncture caused by debris ended his charge, leaving the Finn disconsolate. Behind Hamilton his championship rival, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, for some time in control of the race, saw his hopes disappear after a late safety car when he sacrificed calm consideration for an overambitious lunge that reduced him to fourth place. This most unlikely turnaround at the front was reflected in…
Barcelona claimed their 25th La Liga title on Sunday as a Lionel Messi hat-trick secured a thrilling 4-2 victory at Deportivo La Coruna that wrapped up the league with four matches to spare. Ernesto Valverde’s men completed a league and cup double after thrashing Sevilla 5-0 in last week’s Copa del Rey final, regaining the Spanish crown from Real Madrid and relegating Deportivo in the process. The only blip on the Catalans’ season was the stunning Champions League quarter-final loss at Roma when they blew a 4-1 first-leg lead. “We have managed an almost perfect league campaign, without losing so…

A controversial Nigerian senator is currently in detention at an Abuja hospital after allegedly jumping out of a police van to try and escape custody. The incident is the latest in a series of scandals linked to the colourful politician, Dino Melaye. The chain of events that led to Mr Melaye’s exit from a police vehicle, through its window, began in mid-March. That month, the police arrested two members of an armed gang. Kabiru Saidu, also known as Osama, and Nuhu Salisu, nicknamed “Small”, confessed to taking part in a number of kidnappings and armed robberies. They also accused Senator…
World number one Rafael Nadal produced an imperious display to win his 11th Barcelona Open title with a 6-2 6-1 win over Greek teenager, Stefanos Tsitsipas. Nadal, 31, who won his 400th clay-court match to reach the final, claimed two rapid breaks to take the first set in 40 minutes against the 19-year-old. By Anietie John Ukpe Defending President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark that Nigerian youths are lazy is like putting icing on a cow dung. It may look nice on the outside, but the odour would still be there. In this case the nauseating odour stinks to high heavens. The unfortunate remark ran foul of a key theory of communication. Harold Laswell’s theory of “Who says What? In which Channel? To Whom? With What Effect?” Laswell stated that “Who?” refers to the communicator and control analysis. “Says what?” refers to content analysis. “In which channel?” refers to media analysis. “To whom?” refers to…
By Bisi Adewale Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him Proverbs 9:1-4 (KJV). To build a great house you need a strong foundation and pillars; prayer and fasting will never sustain a skyscraper you build without strong pillars. Likewise, marriage needs to be built on very…
