The Nigerian Senate has declared Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, an ‘enemy of democracy,’ who is not fit to hold public office in Nigeria and abroad. The decision of the Senate was announced by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, after a closed-door session on Wednesday. The Senate had entered the closed-door session following Mr Idris’ refusal to honour an invitation to appear before the Senate a third time. A two-day fierce inter-communal clashes between Ikot Offiong people of Odukpani local government area in Cross River State and their Ikot Offiong neighbours in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom State has reportedly left more than 11 people mostly women and children dead. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Tuesday, adjourned till June 11 to rule on an application seeking to stop further hearing on the money laundering charge the Federal Government preferred against the Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria, Mr. Dickson Akor. Akor is being prosecuted on an amended 13-count charge of alleged involvement in N1.4 billion recruitment scam. The Incorporated Trustees of the Corps is the second defendant in the charge. A Bill to repeal Terrorism, Prevention, Act, 2011 and enact Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Bill,Tuesday, scaled second reading in the House of Representatives. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Tuesday, says that the Federal Government and not the corporation is responsible for payment of subsidy on petrol to marketers. Addressing the House of Representatives’ Ad-hoc Committee investigating the status of the nation’s four refineries, Mr. Anibor Kragha, Chief Operating Officer in-charge of Refineries, who represented the NNPC, admitted that it was the Federal Government and not the corporation is paying the subsidy.
