The $186 million Afam Fast power project would be ready for commissioning next month, the Federal Government has announced. The project, tagged “power on the wheel”, initiated by the All Progressives Congress, APC, government in 2016, would add 240 megawatts of electricity to the national grid when it fully becomes operational. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended 205 staff over various unwholesome roles in the 2015 general elections. Chairman of the commission, Mahmud Yakubu, stated this in his keynote address at national colloquium organised by the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group, ISDMG, Tuesday in Abuja. Yakubu said that the interdiction recommended by INEC’s Appointments, Promotion and Discipline Committee, APDC, was the highest so far. The Senate Tuesday frowned on reports that Senators have been given $50,000 bribe to stop plans to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s veto of the Electoral Act amendment bill 2018 on sequence of election. Consequently, it mandated committee, headed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, PDP, Imo East to carry out a holistic investigation into allegations that some senators and House of Representatives members were being bribed by the executive with $50,000 and $30,000 respectively. The monthly Federal Account Allocation Committee, FAAC, meeting, which began Tuesday was inconclusive due to discrepancies of about N37.76 billion in revenue presented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Akwa Ibom State is among the five states in the country that recorded growth decline in internally generated revenue at the end of 2017 as contained in National Bureau of Statistics report released on Friday. Anambra, Bauchi, Osun and Taraba states also recorded growth decline in IGR, although NBS did not state the exact figures recorded by these states including Akwa Ibom.
