Two people have died from fireworks injuries amid New Year celebrations in Germany, but the country avoided a repeat of the mass groping in Cologne from 2016, amid heightened security and efforts to protect women from sexual harassment. In the Brandenburg region outside Berlin, the dpa news agency reported Monday that a 35-year-old man died after igniting fireworks, and a 19-year-old suffered fatal head injuries after he set off a homemade device. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has remitted additional N3.6 billion to the nation’s treasury. Police in Slidell, Louisiana, have arrested a man who allegedly helped scam people out of thousands of dollars in “Nigerian prince”-style email schemes. Michael Neu, 67, is charged with 269 counts of wire fraud and money laundering. In a Facebook statement on Thursday, police described him as a “middle man” who conned victims into giving up their money in phone and online scams. Neu is accused of wiring some of the money he helped obtain to “co-conspirators” located in Nigeria.
