A University of Cambridge-trained Medical Geneticist, Mkpouto Pius, has sparked debate, asking Nigerian Government to ban schools from organising holiday lessons for their wards. This comes at the wake most private schools in the country are in hot contest in organising lessons for their wards during holidays. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to sell petrol above the landing cost, which currently stands at N1,117 per litre. This, according to him, will prevent the smuggling of the products to neighbouring countries which sell above N1000. Lokpobiri, who stated this in Abuja, bashed security agencies for being complicit in the smuggling activities. He reasoned that unless the NNPC Ltd imports and sells petrol above the landing cost, smugglers would continue to move petroleum products to neighboring countries. The Akwa Ibom State Nigeria Union of Journalists is facing a difficult time following the surprise death of its two members in Uyo Monday. The members are Patience John, a staffer of Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (Television Service) and a member of the chapel as well as Esther Ukpe, a member of Federated Chapel of the union. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it raided a criminal hideout at Ring Road 3 in Uyo, busting a drug trafficking syndicate and arresting two suspects.
