The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested 14 people for alleged vote buying during the governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states on Saturday. In a statement posted on X, the commission said the suspects were arrested during operations across voting centres in the three states. The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) on Saturday decried the widespread vote-buying and violence in the Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi governorship polls. A member of the CDD Election Analysis Centre (CDD-EAC), Dr. Jack Johnson, who addressed journalists at a media briefing on the off-cycle elections in Abuja, said the centre deployed over 150 fact-checkers and observers in the three states. Following an allegation of assault on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Friday ordered a thorough probe into the matter. A mother of nine children has reportedly committed suicide by hanging in her residence at Enamejewa Street, off Warri/Sapele Road, Warri, in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. Against the sustained upswing in the prices of gas, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited has blamed vessel scarcity, foreign exchange and oil prices for the rising cost of LPG, otherwise known as cooking gas, nationwide. Straightnews gathered that in Uyo the price for 12.5kg of LPG has risen to N12,375 against N10,625 sold in October.
