By Udeme Nana Some days could be bleak, cloudy, depressing, dull, sad, and traumatic all at once, but once a rare ray of brilliance shines through, the whole atmosphere changes into brightness and joy. This is exactly what happens when one grabs the work of one of the few standing apostles of outstanding journalism in Nigeria at present. As a field marshal in the pen wielding forces of the world, Ray has had an impact far beyond his imagination. At least, two men I know have testified publicly that Ray, by the sheer hold he has had on his readers, has disrupted relationships…
When Dr. Diaso Vwaere was being inducted as a Nigerian doctor after her six-year sojourn at Babcock University last year, she had high hopes and expectations. She had hopes for a flourishing medical career. Expectations to use her newly learned medical skills to benefit the community and society at large. Training a child at a Babcock medical college is quite expensive and does not come cheap. N3.5 million per annum for school fees alone during her time; it is now N6.5 million per annum, but her parents did it because they wanted to give the best to their daughter and…
Days after a military junta ousted the country’s elected leader, Mohamed Bazoum, Nigeria has cut off electricity supply from the country to serve as deterrent to others. On Sunday, ECOWAS countries had met in Abuja and gave the military junta a seven-day ultimatum to reinstate the ousted President or be ready to face any action. Niger’s Electricity Company, Nigelec, stated that the blackout is as a result of Nigeria cutting off power supply to the country. While the Economic and West African Community (ECOWAS) leaders have disclosed that they will be imposing sanctions on Niger, it has not been announced…

A ministerial nominee, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, was sad as he appeared before Red Chambers to reminisce how smaller African countries have stable power supply, but Nigeria is still grappling with it. Nigeria gained independence from the British colonialists on October 1, 1960, but epileptic power supply is one of the country’s headaches. El-rufai, one of the nine ministerial nominees told senators when he appeared at the red chamber for screening on Tuesday, identified non-gas supply, indebtedness by DISCOS and lack of infrastructures as such hydra-headed constraints to adequate electricity. After a week-old coup, ‘pariah’ Niger announced overnight that it was reopening its borders with several of its neighbours, despite its action being condemned by foreign powers. ECOWAS had issued a seven-day ultimatum to Niger to reinstate the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum to avoid possible military showdown, thus raising fears of a wider conflict in West Africa’s Sahel region. However, Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea have rebuffed ECOWAS stance by pledging their support to the new Niger leaders. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says it is not backing down on a nationwide protest over the hike in the pump price of petrol and other issues, describing reports suggesting otherwise as the handiwork of “fifth columnists.” In a statement late Tuesday, the body said though it held a meeting with the Federal Government, the mass action will hold as earlier planned. “We want to inform all Nigerians that we have just risen from a meeting with the Federal Government where we sought to get them to listen to the demands of the people and workers of Nigeria,” NLC president…
