A septuagenarian has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing a school proprietor at the Kajola area of Odigbo Local Council Area of Ondo State on August 7, 2021. The 78-year-old community leader, Ojo Komolafe found guilty by Ondo State High Court of killing a School Proprietor, Taofik Babalola, was also sentenced to seven years on a second count. The Appeal Court, Calabar Division, Friday, upheld the conviction of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan popularly known as as OBA on money laundering charges by a Federal High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and ordered his arrest. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) made this known on Friday in a statement by its Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren. EFCC noted that Justice Agatha Okeke, on December 1, 2022, found Akpan guilty of seven counts of money laundering preferred against him by the EFCC and sentenced him to 42 years imprisonment, without an option of fine. President Bola Tinubu has not approved any increase of salary for political office holders and judicial officers, the Presidency has reacted. The media have been agog with reports that the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is proposing a 114% review of salaries for political holders.
