A 45-year-old man, Udeme Sunday Uko, was shot d3ad while sleeping with his family in a church in Ikot Okusung village, Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 4, 2025. The West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE,  has released the 2025 results, showing a significant decline in performance by schools’ candidates. Out of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat for the examination, 754,545 candidates, representing 38.32%, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. President Bola Tinubu has doled out another $100,000 (N150 million) to each of the players of the Nigeria Basketball team known as D’Tigress.  However, the coaches and technical crew members were given $50,000 (N75 million) each.
