The House of Representatives Committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution has proposed the creation of 31 additional states in the country. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu read the letter from the committee containing the proposal during plenary on Thursday in Abuja. If approved, this will increase the number of states in Nigeria to 67. A Nigerian Professor in Akwa Ibom State has been jailed three years for perjury and publishing false election results. Ignatius Uduk, a professor of Human Kinetics at the University of Uyo, was prosecuted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on charges of perjury and announcing and publishing false results during the 2019 general elections in Essien Udim State Constituency, where he served as the returning officer. His conviction and sentencing came four years after his colleague, Peter Ogban, a professor of Soil Science at the University of Calabar, was jailed three years for a similar offence. Fire has sent 30 passengers to their early graves in an auto crash that occurred in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Nigeria’s Ondo State. The incident occurred on Saturday, when two commercial buses had a head-on collision and burst into flames at the Onipetesi axis along the Ore/Lagos Expressway. With 32 passengers involved in the accident, 28 were burnt beyond recognition while two survivors rescued with serious injuries died before getting to the hospital.
