Following the enactment of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2020, in Akwa Ibom, courts in the state are empowered to maintain a register for convicted sexual offenders and make it public. Akwa Ibom State has hit 17 new COVID-19 cases, being the highest since the outbreak of the pandemic some months ago, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has confirmed. This has brought the total number of COVID-19 cases in Akwa Ibom to 65, though more than 40 persons with infections have been discharged. Nigerian Universities’ Scientists, under the aegis of COVID-19 Research Group, on Friday announced the discovery of a vaccine for the prevention of Coronavirus pandemic. Nigeria recorded 745 coronavirus, the single highest in one day  in the country. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)  which announced this via its Twitter on Thursday also stated that 344 patientswere discharged from isolation centres across the country with five new deaths reported.
