    Benue: Two NITEL Workers die as Telecom mast collapses

    Two workers of the Nigeria Telecommunication Limited (NITEL) lost their lives after a mast they worked on collapsed in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

    A telecommunication mast which collapsed in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State on Wednesday January 19, killed two staff of Nigeria Telecommunication Limited (NITEL).

    Witnesses said the workers were seven in number atop the mast working to dismantle it around the NITEL premises near Takum junction in Kastina-Ala when it suddenly collapsed, killing the two.

    Chairman of Kastina-Ala LGA, Alfred Atera confirmed the incident, adding that five others were rushed to the hospital.

    Atera said, “They had loosed one side of the mast when the other part collapsed. Two of them died instantly while five others were taken to the hospital.”

    Benue police command spokesperson, Catherine Anene also confirmed the incident.

    She said “Two people died. Others are in the hospital.”
