Out of fear, most people in Dapchi scampered into bush as Boko Haram, Nigerian Islamist militant group, today (Wednesday) returned 105 girls of Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, located in Bulabulin, Yunusari local government area of Yobe State in the North East Region of Nigeria.
Boko Haram abducted 110 schoolgirls aged from 11-19 from the school on the evening of Monday, February 19 to unknown destination.
Parents went through the list of kidnapped girls on February 28, 2018. Nigeria’s government on March 1 said it had set up a committee to establish how Boko Haram jihadists managed to kidnap 110 girls from their school.
A report by Sahara Reporters Wednesday indicates that five of the students died in the terrorists’ hide-out.
Meanwhile, two parents confirmed to AFP on Wednesday about the return of the students to Dapchi saying: “The girls have been brought back.
“They were brought in nine vehicles and dropped outside the school at about 8:00 am (0700 GMT),” said Bashir Manzo, who heads a group set up to support parents whose children were abducted.
Another source had earlier told Saharareporters that the militant group came with the girls in nine vehicles same way they took them away.
“There was confusion in the area as members of the community scampered into the bush as the terror group appeared in the area, first dropping one the girls in a nearby village and then driving into the centre of Dapchi town to drop the rest of the girls.
“Five of the girls are dead according to our source. It is not clear if the Nigerian government paid any ransom to get the girls released,” the sources stated.
