Few days after the sack of Prof Nelson Brambaifa as acting managing director of the NDDC, a chieftain of APC in Bayelsa State has tasked the EFCC to bring him to book to account for his activities while in the office.
Chief Richard Kpodoh told journalists in Yenagoa on Friday that the NDDC under Brambaifa underperformed because of the in-fighting and greed on the part of those with the responsibility to run the commission.
Kpodoh said rather than serve the people, the people were serving themselves while Brambaifa did virtually nothing to stop the malfeasance in the commission.
He insisted that there were signals that Brambaifa was planning to escape to avoid being held to account for his activities.
“There are speculations that Brambaifa plans to run away so that nobody will get him to account for the wasted six months in NDDC.
“The last six months have been a waste for us in the Niger Delta, as far as the NDDC is concerned.
“The EFCC has a duty to bring Brambaifa to book. He has to come and tell us how he spent the billions that were handed to him to develop the Niger Delta.
“All the governors of the region couldn’t have been wrong in accusing him of not running the office well.
“Recall that the governors were in unison when they accused him to his face, that he was not doing well. I challenge the EFCC to get into action immediately.
“There is no time to waste. The man abused the privilege and disappointed all of us who believed in his ability to deliver.
“I am also calling on the ICPC to get involved so that he can account for whatever he did while in office.
“It has come to that time when public servants should realise that once rheumatoid get into office, a day will come when they will be made to account for the or deeds.
“Let me also caution the new team that has just been brought on board to pilot the affairs of the NDDC. They should be mindful to do the right thing. If they don’t, they will also be made to gave the law at the appropriate time.”
