Burna Boy’s Last has ranked No. 1 on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart to lead the list on July 16, having advanced from No. 3.

The single is the only fifth leader on the new genre chart, which was launched in April.

The Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart ranks the 50 most popular Afrobeats songs in the country based on a weighted formula incorporating official streams on subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services, plus download sales from top music retailers.

Last registered 4.2 million official U.S. streams in the week ending July 7, 14 per cent increase from the 3.6 million collected in the week prior, according to Luminate.

The track also logged 1,000 downloads sold in the same period, up 46 per cent from the previous week.

Burna Boy’s new champ revives a prominent hit from more than decades ago.

Last Last samples elements of Toni Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000.

Its use did not come cheap; in an interview on Gillie Da King and Wallo267’s podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game, the global superstar said that 60% of Last royalties were going to the creators behind Braxton’s hit.

Last Last may soon begin its own Hot 100 journey, as the song sits at No. 13 on the Bubbling under Hot 100 chart.

Further attention may come in the wake of the release of parent album, Love, Damini, on July 8.

Elsewhere, Last surges into the upper half of both the Billboard Global 200 (123-81) and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. (140-94) charts, which rank songs based on streaming and sales activity garnered from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. (The former includes U.S. activity, while the latter excludes stateside involvement.)

In addition to the reigning champ, Burna Boy also has seven more songs on the latest Billboard U.S. Afrobeats chart. Here’s a full recap of his current standings:

No. 11, Jerusalema, Master KG featuring Burna Boy & Nomcebo Zikode
