Chelsea and PSG have qualified for the UEFA Champions league semi-finals after triumphing over FC Porto and Bayern Munich respectively.
PSG avenged Bayern Munich, the defending champion, after a losing in the finals last season.
Kylian Mbappe’s brace and Marquinhos’ strike in the 1st leg gave them a cushion as the French side wins 3-3 on away goals.
Chelsea’s match against Porto was a game of few chances, with the Blues staying strong in the defensive until Mehdi Taremi scored an absolute belter with an overhead kick from Nanu’s cross.
Thomas Tuchel made three changes to his team that started the 1st leg last week. Thiago Silva, Kante, and Pulisic all started the game. Christensen and Werner were rested while Kovacic missed the tie due to an injury.
Sergio Conceicao made just one change to his team during the 1st leg. His side’s top-scorer Oliveira came back after missing the 1st leg due to suspension. Diaz dropped to the bench.
Although FC Porto had the best chance of the game due to a sloppy pass from Mendy to Corona, Jorginho blocked the shot for the Blues.
An incredible goal saw FC Porto cut the deficit into half in the 90+3 minute. Nanu swung a cross from the right side and Taremi went for a spectacular finish with an overhead kick as Mendy was rooted to his spot.
The goal was akin to Gareth Bale’s against Liverpool or Cristiano Ronaldo’s against Juventus.
Chelsea reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2014.
Pochettino made six changes to the side that beat Strasbourg last time out. Dagba and Diallo both start at the full-back positions in place of Kehrer and Bakker. Gueye came into the midfield position in place of Herrera.
Mosie Kean, Rafinha, and Sarabia drop to the bench as Di Maria, Neymar, and Draxler take their spot.
Neymar had a chance to score but his shot hit the crossbar on a frustrating evening for the French side.
Pochettino’s men lost and could not advance to the semi-finals on away goals.
