A 42-year-old man is to spend the next three years in a correctional centre for defiling a nine-year-old girl in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
Daniel George, who hails from Mbat Esifon in Obot Akara Local Government Area, was convicted Thursday by the State High Court in Ikot Ekpene.
Delivering the judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Augustine Odokwo sentenced the accused to three years imprisonment with whipping.
The accused who denied having unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim however admitted in his confessional statement that he only inserted his finger into the private part of the victim.
The court convicted him accordingly in line with his confession.
Justice Odokwo advised parents to be vigilant and watch over their female children to save the girl child from the likes of the convict, Daniel.
