What looked as a reprisal attack between Debam and Iceland confraternities in Inen Ikot Ndoh Community, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State has led to the death of one person.
So far, more than seven persons have been killed in Inen communities since the renewed cult clash in the clan.
In renewed melee on Saturday, several persons including a retired police inspector named Josiah Okon who relocated from Port Harcourt after being bedridden due to stroke sustained injuries.
It was gathered that the victim, known as ‘Udo Mma’ died on the spot while the retired police officer was wounded in his compound.
It was learned that the cultists rebuffed entreaties of the retired police inspector urging them to allow peace prevail as they chose to continue with reprisal killings in the area.
A witness, Mr Udo Jim, said the police officer was worried by the rate of insecurity and wanton killings occasioned by cult clashes in his village, and appealed to the rival cult groups to stop further hostilities in the community.
He further said the cultists also injured other persons in the same village and were receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
“Today being Sunday, no church has conducted worship service in this community because of this incident and other ones that happened in the past,” another source said.
Speaking to our correspondent in a telephone interview, SP Odiko Macdon, the state Police- Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, adding that three persons have been arrested, while an investigation has been ordered to unravel the cause of cult clashes in the area.
