In less than one year, the Lagos State government has ordered the temporary closure of Chrisland School in Opebi-Ikeja.
This follows the controversial death of one of its students, a 12-year-old Whytney Adeniran, during their inter-house sports day last Thursday, February 9.
A statement by the state government this evening says the school is closed pending the outcome of an investigation into the unfortunate incident.

“It is pertinent to note that all allegations are being investigated by the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including Ministry of Education, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Justice and the Lagos State Domestic & Sexual Violence Agency, whilst the criminal allegations have been escalated to the Commissioner of Police.
“LASG ORDERS CLOSURE OF CHRISLAND SCHOOL
The Lagos State Ministry of Education has ordered the temporary closure of Chrisland School, Opebi-Ikeja, following the reported death of a student of the School, Whytney Adeyemi.
A release signed by the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo said the closure was ordered pending the outcome of a full investigation into the unfortunate incident.”
However, an alleged Chrisland student has claimed that Whitney Adeniran, who died during the school’s inter-house sports event, died of electrocution.
The yet-to-be identified student who made this claim in a trending audio said that contrary to the school’s claim that Whitney slumped, she died after mistakenly touching a naked wire from a cotton candy vending machine.
“We went for inter-house sport and in my own school, we do go to the stadium. In the stadium, there are machines like cotton candy vendor machine, popcorn machine and stuff like that.
‘‘Her mouth was foaming; her veins were popping. Her tongue just disappeared, they now poured water on her and took her to the back, and then they took her to the hospital,” the purported student said in the audio.
