    Diri harps on boosting sports for unity among South South

    In a quest to enhance unity among people in the South South Region, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has harped on the need to harness hidden potentials through sports in the region.

    Diri made the call when he received the representatives of the South South Inter Club Tennis Association (SSICTA) led by its President, Sir Emem Akpabio at Government House, Yenogoa on Saturday, November 6.

    He emphasised the need for the association to sustain the competition in the region which is fast becoming the headquarters of sports in Nigeria to regaining its rightful place on sports in the country.

    The governor welcomed delegates to Bayelsa Government House christened Creek Heaven and thanked the leadership of the South South Inter Club Tennis Association.

    Earlier, Akpabio had thanked the Bayelsa State Governor for granting them audience to intimate him as the Chief Security of the State about the association which cuts across all the clubs in the South South Region of the country.

    He described the Governor as a sport loving person informed him of the forthcoming Niger Delta open coming up early next year, explaining that the association wants to use tennis to promote unity in the South South.

    The President solicited the governor’s support towards a successful hosting of the maiden outing of the competition.
