Yakubu Dogara, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Festus Keyamo, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidential campaign director, took to their Twitter handles on Sunday to bicker after President Muhammadu Buhari tweeted his support for Tinubu in the February 25 presidential election.
Buhari had, in his tweet on Saturday said he believed that Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would do his best for the country if elected.
“Today in Lafia, Nasarawa State, I delivered my message: VOTE AsiwajuBola Ahmed Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria, and vote Governor Abdullahi Sule for a 2nd term! I have known Asiwaju for more than 20 years; he will give his best to Nigeria,” Buhari tweeted on Saturday.
Dogara, while responding to Buhari’s tweet, described the President’s message as a “satire,” not meant to be taken seriously by Nigerians. “I know that PMB loves to crack jokes but I didn’t know he will escalate it to the level of satire,” Dogara said on his Twitter handle.
“Asiwaju ‘ll give his best to Nigeria, really? Fake certificates, fake parentage, golden triangle escapades, racketeering, No, PMB, Nigeria does not deserve his best, but we get the satire,” he said in reference to Mr President’s request for support for APC’s Tinubu.
But Tinubu’s Campaign Director-General, Keyamo came hard on Dogara for making mockery of Mr President’s endorsement for Tinubu and denigrating his principal as well. “My brother and Law school mate, “YakubDogara, this tweet is beneath you. You are actually pained by the support of PMB for @officialABAT, two leaders who have stayed true to their beliefs and causes, wanderer and back-stabber that you’ve always been,” he said.
Dogara who is also the leading supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fired back: “My brother, I have a name for you but because it’s not a good one, I won’t say it as a cost of friendship. Yes, we were mates at Law School, but I am waiting for you to win a councilorship election first so we can be mates in politics. Learn to punch below your weight category.”
“In spite of what we now know and what you have said before about your candidate, we haven’t rushed to the courts, yet you feel so entitled to call us names! My good friend, the law I studied was to save me from the morass of propaganda by gas lighters-in-chief and their ilk,” Dogara told Keyamo regarding the Buhari’s tweet.
Festus Keyamo responded to Yakubu Dogara’s “not your mate in politics” tweet.
Keyamo, who is also the minister of state for Labour, tweeted back on Sunday to Dogara, telling him that everyone must not “be rated by elections won and lost.”
“Let me remind you that I’ve reached the height of our profession and you must learn to respect your senior at the bar!” boasted Mr Keyamo, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a prestigious title for legal practitioners who have distinguished themselves in law practice in the country.
