Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board (SSEB) Monitoring Team has fumed at nonchalant attitude of some public schools’ teachers to work in the state.

At Comprehensive High School, Ntak Afaha in Ukanafun Local Government Area, the team did not take it kindly on discovering that teachers were not in classes during school hours.

The team led by Mr. Joseph Eton, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, warned teachers in the school to desist from reporting to school late as well as not being at the classroom to teach the students.

The state Education team discovered that the classes were full, but teachers were not handy to teach the students.

He was also shocked to discover that the first term 2020/2021school year results were not yet released to students several weeks into second term.

Eton who represented the Board Chairman, Dr. Ekaete Ebong Okon, frowned at the ugly situation, but directed the teachers to release the results to students within four days.

Eton described the act as unprofessional and unacceptable, warning that severe sanctions will be given if sure repeat itself.

He chided public school teachers and advised them to take their work seriously, adding that henceforth, the board will no longer condone such lackadaisical attitude.

However, at Community Secondary School, Urua Ekpa Enang, the SSEB officials were happy that most of the teachers were in their duty post and were teaching as at the time of the visit.

He commended the principal to monitor the teachers and to always cover the school syllabus.

At Community Secondary School, Nkek, the team told the school principal to do everything possible to keep the record straight, adding that the board would establish and maintain a cordial relationship with both the PTA and the host community.

The director expressed satisfaction with the ICT facilities in the school, and called on the benefiting students to make good use of them for qualitative education.

Later, the monitoring team comprising Directors and some senior staffers of the board visited Western Annang Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpa Nkuk in Ukanafun, and Ukanafun Local Education Office.
