A Nigerian university don has described as fallacious and mirage United Nations avowed Goals 1 and 2 targeting at ending poverty and hunger globally in 2030 as entrenched Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.

Professor Peter Esuh, Dean of the newly established Faculty of Media & Communication Studies (CMS), University of Uyo, speaking on Thursday, April 7 during a two-day training workshop for journalists held at Royal Diadem Hotel and Events Centre, CCC Road, Uyo, said this was unachievable as poverty and hunger not even in developed countries as the problems are endemic.

Esuh noted that it was unfortunate while most developing and undeveloped countries are still grappling with a myriad of problems and on the throes to implement Millennium Development Programmes (MDGs), the world body introduced Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) meant to serve developed countries.

According to him, most Nigerian politicians do not understand projects sustainability hence the inability to sustain the projects as they deplore what he calls ‘empowerment scheme’ in the provision of dividends of democracy.

The university don, who presented a lecture at the workshop on the theme Training journalists on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and developing a network of sustainability reporters, blamed delay by many developing countries in implementing MDGs on weak policy implementation.

Also, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom Land Use and Allocation Committee, recalled that sustainability was pioneered in the 13th century to uphold or keep doing while in 1972, it was to give support.

The Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Infrmation and Strrategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong emphasised on the need for leaders to democratise development to engender cooperation among the different communities seen as the owners of the projects.

Ememobong spoke against dollarization of projects in the developing countries to avoid defeating the essence of siting the projects at the grassroot.
