    Era of FG Financial Dependency Over, Emir Says

    The era of financial dependency on Federal government by states is over, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, has declared.

    The emir, who handled the submission Thursday while he received a team of Lagos/Kano Economic Summit in his palace, noted that a working strategy should be evolved by states to lift them from economic depression.

    Lagos teams are in Kano to engage her Kano counterpart on economic partnership, and as well strengthens relations.

    Sanusi II said that dependency on economic development of states on Federal Government in this era of economic recession is no longer feasible, stressing that each state should develop her economic blueprint to chart the way forward.

    The second most influential monarch explained that Lagos developed its economic programmes by exploiting its wastes management system for maximal economic benefits of her citizens.

    The emir said that “Kano as another critical economic driver is also creating its economic blueprint, looking at one area of building a new abattoir that would be processing meats and transport it easily to various states of the world.”

    Sanusi said “Lagos is also today a city state that has becomes one of the fastest economic growing hubs in sub Saharan Africa and collaborating with it would be a great beneficial to all.”

    The Fulani monarch stated “Lagos is goods producing state and Kano is the market that takes care of the West African States, so collaboration between the two states is a welcome development.”

    The Leader of the Lagos economic team and also Commissioner for Economic, Budget and Planning, Mr Akinyemi Ashade, said that the two states shared slot in common that could be exploited for the benefits of her citizens.

    Mr Akinyemi said the final meetings on economic partnership will produce a Memorandum of Understanding that would be signed between the two states.

    The Permanent Chairman of the Kano Economic Team, Professor Shamsudeen Usman who is also a former Minister of National Planning, said the two states would deliberate between Thursday, Friday on serious aspect of economic partnership.
