    First Akwa Ibom Secretary To Military Govt For Interment August 14

    The first Secretary to Akwa Ibom Government, Obong Asuquo Etukeyen, has left for the celestial abode.

    The 81-year-old Etukeyen who served as Secretary to the Military Government from 1987 to 1991 died on June 12, this year.

    The chief mourner and the son to the deceased, Udeme, who confirmed this to Straightnews in a telephone interview on Tuesday, said his remains would be interred on Friday, August 14 after a funeral service at Community Secondary School, Ikot Itina in Etinan.

    A biography obtained from Who is Who in Nigeria shows that the octogenarian, who is married to Theresa with four children, hailed from Ikot Inyang in Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

    He attended Hope Waddell Training Institution, Calabar; Methodist College, Uzuakoli; Fourah Bay College, Freetown; and University of Manchester, among others.

    Etukeyen rose from Administrative Officer, Calabar, Cross River State to Director-General, Council Secretariat, the Presidency, Abuja from 1992 to 1994 before his retirement from the civil service.
