More than 25 persons Wednesday reportedly died in Nigeria’s Kogi State when a fuel tanker’s driver lost control, following brakes failure and collision with other vehicles.
Some students of Kogi State Polytechnic, a school bus conveying primary and secondary school students, residents. traders and passers-by were said to have razed by a fire sparked by a fuel tanker explosion at Felele area of Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
Lokoja police spokesman, Willy Aya said that several victims were burnt beyond recognition.
Many of them were pedestrians, including the students who were crossing the road to go to college, local resident Iliyasu Zakari told the BBC.
Reacting in the statement signed by his spokesperson, Onogwu Muhammed, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State expressed his condolence to the families of those affected by the incident.
