As part of the events to usher in his second term inauguration on May 29, Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel has begun to roll out development projects executed and completed by his administration.
The governor on Saturday inaugurated the16 km Awa Iman-Ikot Edim-Ikot Emem-Ukam-Ikot Ebiere Road with three spurs and two bridges.
The road passes from Onna to Mkpat Enin local government area.
Emmanuel, accompanied by his deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo; Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, Secretary to the State Government, and other senior citizens, stated that the inauguration ceremony was another success story of his superior performance.
He noted that the project was aimed at improving the living standards of the people at the grassroots and providing access roads for them to convey their farm produce to the city.
The State Chief Executive advised the people in the area to use the road to improve trade and commerce to enhance their economic prosperity.
Earlier, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, the state Commissioner for Works, had explained that the project was initially a 12.74 kilometre but had to be broaden to benefit other communities in the area.
According to him, “This is one of the best network of roads for the people,” and pledged the determination of his ministry to maintain the road.
The Mkpat Enin Paramount Ruler, Edidem Akpan Akpan Ekpene and Ekanem Brown, Mkpat Enin local government Chairman, described the project as a good omen that would increase agricultural productivity in the area.
The people specifically eulogised Mr Emmanuel for his administration’s commitment to spread democratic dividends to different parts of the State.
Meanwhile, Mr. Emmanuel and his entourage later moved to Eket where he inaugurated Lucy Bassey Street, Frank Archibong Street and six others in the area.
