Some youth leaders in Akwa Ibom State have passed a vote of no confidence on Mr Nelson Effiong, Senator representing Akwa Ibom South over what they described as his incompetency.
The youth leaders who spoke under the aegis of Mkpat Enin Youth Leaders Congress in what they termed an Extra-Ordinary General Meeting and Press Conference held recently in Mkpat Enin local government area of the state, noted that they had begun an electoral process to recall the lawmaker.
They noted; “Senator Nelson Effiong has failed us. We are here to tell the world that we can no more condone his incompetency. We worked for his election but we have not felt his impact since he assumed that office. We cannot continue to fold our arms and watch this happen.
“He was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but he cross-carpeted to the All Progressives Congress so that he will block us from having access to him. We say it will not work.”
In a communique signed by Ekemini Charles, special adviser, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Joe Kokobassey, Ikpa Ibom Youth President,and other signatories shortly after the meeting, the group thanked the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for the development in the area as well as member representing Mkpat Enin State constituency at the state house of assembly, Mr Otobong Ndem, for his “effective representation.”
They unanimously agreed to endorse the duo for a second term in office come 2019.
They also agitated for shot at the House of Representatives in 2019, arguing that there is an established rotation and zoning arrangement which makes it the turn of Mkpat Enin to produce a federal lawmaker in the constituency.
The adoption was done by Mkpat Enin youth council, Mkpat Enin youth caucus, Forum of 87 village youth presidents of Mkpat Enin, Ikpa Ibom Clan Youth Forum, Ikpa Ikono Clan Youth Forum, Ibiaku clan Youth Forum, Ukpum Minya Clan Youth Movement, National Association of Mkpat Enin students worldwide, NAAKIS Mkpat Enin chapter, Forum of PDP youth leaders in Mkpat Enin, and other registered youth groups in the area.
