Lady Mary Abiola Wayas, wife of second Republic Senate President, Joseph Wayas and her husband are said to have died in the same hospital amid lingering sickness.

The widow reportedly joined 12 days after husband’s death to the great beyond.

Government of Cross River State government confirmed the death and Governor Ben Ayade described her death as shocking and devastating.

The former Senate President died one month ago in a London hospital where he had been confined for a lingering sickness.

The late wife Mary also reportedly died in a London hospital earlier Tuesday.

In a statement signed by the deputy chief press Secretary, Linus Obogo, the state governor, Ayade said “it is a blow too heavy to take, especially when we are still struggling to come to terms with the painful death of her husband and father, Dr. Joseph Wayas.”

He said the exit of Mary Abiola Wayas was depressing and a great loss for both her family and the state, maintaining that “It is an unacceptable moment for me to hear of her departure, because I was not prepared for this, not when we are still planning for the funeral of her husband and former Senate President, Dr. Joseph Wayas.”

Ayade extolled Lady Wayas as “one of the most cheerful, clever and charming women whom I have ever met in my life.

“I would like to convey my condolences and those of the state to her family. This is really a great loss for all of us.”

Ayade called on the country to join in mourning the fallen Lady Abiola Wayas, even as he called on the family to be consoled by the noble deeds of their mother.
