Some Nigerians have jabbed President Bola Tinubu for delivering what they see as ‘‘empty’’ speech on issues raised by protesters in the ongoing nationwide #Endbadgovernance campaign.
Oseni Rufai, an Arise TV public Affairs analyst, wrote ‘‘What president Tinubu should have said I am committed to cutting the cost of governance and I will reduce ministers I will push for electoral reforms; I will be honest about subsidy regime; I will reduce crude oil theft; I will cost the running cost in the presidency.”
@ruffydfire penned ”I will bring about judicial reforms; I will improve the security situation with practical steps; I will cultivate more food and practical steps. I will improve National health insurance coverage. You can add to it.”
Inibehe Effiong, in his X handle, wrote ‘‘President Tinubu’s speech is just a pack of empty words and a time wasting load of irrelevancies. It is a confirmation of my long held view that we are dealing with a fatalistic political class that is intentionally deaf and willfully blind to the sufferings and yearnings of Nigerians. This President is disconnected from the reality of the everyday Nigerian.
@InibeheEffiong added ”He’s living in an imaginary Nigeria that only exists in his head. The speech couldn’t have been more meaningless and aimless. Those who wrote it, and Mr. Tinubu who read it out, have succeeded in justifying the reasons for the nationwide protest. It is appalling that despite what we have witnessed across the country in the last three days, the President did not deem it necessary to speak to the specific demands of the protesters. A government is only useful if it serves the interest of the governed. This government is anti-people.
”Tinubu made no mention of electoral reform, no reversal of his horrible and devastating economic policies, he made no attempt to cut down the over bloated size of his government. Tinubu made no concessions. This President only did what despots do; ignore the agitations of the masses. Great leaders make sacrifices for their country, but terrible leaders like Tinubu only know how to sacrifice the country for their interest.”
According to him, ”It is not his voice that people wanted to hear, people wanted him to speak directly to their demands. His call for dialogue is in bad faith. He did not address the mindless killing of protesters by security agencies in any meaningful way. He also did not set up any credible machinery for a purposeful dialogue. Tinubu is preoccupied with the ridiculous idea that the protest is being sponsored by his political adversaries. This provocative arrogance by Nigerian politicians will be ended one day by Nigerians, one way or the other.”
Dr Folaseye (ENT/Head &Neck Surgeon) tweeted ‘‘I listened 3 times to see if I missed anything and I realized your president Tinubu did not address a single demand of the protesters . HmmYour president has Psychogenic deafness!! Meaning he cannot hear despite having normal audiological factors. That is what I call Danger!!/ This means if all the Nigerian youth die he cannot hear becos ‘it is his turn.”
@DrFolaseye noted ”Even if all Nigerians die tomorrow “ it is his turn to : buy; yatch, pimp a multibillion dollars presidential plane and it is his turn to bring the national to its knees. Haa!! I weep for all those that lost their lives in the last 4days. My fellow youths, there is no treatment for this type of Psychogenic deafness that this president has. I rest my case. #Tinubu has Psychogenic deafness.”
Sowore calls for ‘nationwide shutdown’
Meanwhile, journalist and Convener of #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has called for a total shutdown in Nigeria following President Bola Tinubu’s Sunday morning address amidst the#EndBadGovernance protests.
Speaking on Sunday, on News Central TV, Sowore berated the speech delivered by President Bola Tinubu saying the President did not address any of the demands of the protesters and as a result, the public demonstrations would continue.
“They (referring to the government) have nothing to offer you. Sometimes we ask for too much when we know that they have nothing or little to give. What you saw happened in the speech which I did not bother to listen to, there is nothing in it. Sowore said.
“There is no desire on their part to connect with the issues. We have 15 demands, but none of them was addressed. Tinubu merely reaffirmed his position that no matter what you do, he is not going to do anything about your condition.
“The social and economic conditions brought hardships to the people. So the good news is that he has helped to mobilise for the next round of action. You see that Nigerians went back to the barricade again today in Lagos.
“Tomorrow which coincides with the fifth anniversary of our #RevolutionNow, we are mobilising across Nigeria and beyond for the resumption of massive action.”
“We hope those who are watching and listening will go and store food and we encourage workers not to bother to go to work, for transporters to stay away from the highway. We want the roads to be abandoned.
“We want the system to be shut down such that they will understand that Nigerians are the real owners of the country, not those in Abuja who have no idea of what is going on.
“You can understand, that you have a country where people are hungry and the solution is for the President to come out and say they have a garden at the back of Aso Rock where they grow tomatoes and ‘Ewedu’(vegetables). You will know this government is not serious.” he added.
