Ogunjemilusi who stated this on Inspiration 105.9 FM, Uyo explained that it was not necessary to slap a suspect owing to the different nature of crimes committed by people.

He said in modern policing, a policeman is not supposed to bully or slap a suspect to obtain information whereas there are various civilised ways a police officer could use to obtain information from a suspect.

“The police command recently mounted a seminar on modern policing for police officers in the state to enable keep abreast with the profession. We brought in senior lawyers from within and without the state to lecture our officers. Even Akwa Ibom Chief Judge and Director of Public Prosecution were in attendance,” the police chief stated.

The Police Commissioner, however, lauded some officers who are diligent and honest in the performance of their official duty especially release of suspects on bail without collecting money, saying that he has been rewarding such outstanding officers to encourage others.

In particular, he profusely poured encomiums on the Divisional Police Officer for Itu Division for his exemplary conduct and character in the performance of his official duty especially releasing suspects on bail without collecting money.

According to him, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) recently rewarded the officer for the way he has been handling crime busting and prevention matters in a corrupt-free manner, urging other officers in the command to emulate him.

Ogunjemilusi who announced that he might not stay long in the state due to exigency of duty said when he visited Abak Division recently most people who accorded him reception complained that DPO deserves to enter his honour-roll for his exemplary manner and corrupt-free attitude to duty.
