Anxiety continues to mount among contenders and members of the two major political parties in the country as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) since Monday has been rolling out results of last Saturday’s presidential/National Assembly elections.
So far, INEC has on Monday started to release results of the presidential election in 12 states as well as Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In the results, President Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress, APC, is leading in Bauchi, Ekiti, Katsina, Kano, Osun, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Kaduna, Lagos, Ogun, Jigawa and Yobe States while Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, won in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Adamawa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, FCT, Ondo, Edo, Benue, Imo, Taraba, Oyo and Plateau states.
Shortly after convening at the National Collation Centre, Abuja, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman, declared collation centre open and set ground rules for all parties and interested individuals present.
Yakubu said: “During the course of the proceedings there may be interludes and adjournments. This is to hereby announce the adjournment of this proceedings to 11 a.m. on Monday, February 25. Thank you and God bless.” Collation commenced at 11 a.m.

RESULTS COLLATION: Osun State
Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the vice chancellor of the University of Lagos, introduced himself as the collation officer for Osun state.

RESULTS COLLATION: Nasarawa state
The INEC chairman announced that the next state for collation is Nasarawa state.
A party agent raised an observation that there is a wide margin in FCT number accredited voters and number of votes, rejected and cancelled. According to the party agent, the excesses should be seen either in valid, rejected or cancelled as accreditation and voting were done simultaneously.
The INEC chairman agreed that this would be looked into. Professor Mahmood for called on Professor Azubuike Sunny Nwankwo, the Academic Provost of Nigerian Defence Academy who is the collation officer for Nasarawa state.

RESULTS COLLATION: Kogi State
Mahmood Yakubu further called on the secretariat to make provision for ruler and light. However, the collation officer was later asked to step down to reconcile his result after he continued with the mistake. Noah Abiodun, PPA agent complained that there are voters not accounted for in all the states. He said in Abia, 17,090 not accounted. He noted that in Nasarawa, over 14,000 voters remain unaccounted for.
He argued that the voters not accounted for could have made a great difference. INEC chairman says this would be looked into before the process is concluded.

Professor Eze said there were cancellation of votes in some polling units in Ebonyi due to over voting because these units failed to use the smart card readers. He said a total 62 polling units were affected and 54,668 votes were cancelled.

Mahmood announced the resumption of the national collation for 2019 presidential election and called on collation officer for Niger state. Announcing her appearance for Niger state was the vice chancellor for the Federal University of Lokoja, Professor Angela Freeman.

The Niger state collation officer said voting in some polling units was cancelled because here were cases were the card readers could not function due to lack of network and snatching of ballot boxes and pockets of violence.
Total number of polling units affected is 105 units cutting across the 25 local government areas in the state. With a total of 71,237 cancelled votes in Niger state. One of the YPP agents raised an objection complaining about issues with card readers. He said in a case where bout 45,000 votes are cancelled, it was not the fault of the electorate.
Yakubu said based on the resport before him, he did not hear if the collation officer mentioned a figure of those disenfranchised. He said all the issues raised so far would be looked into. He also said the officials from Plateau are safe and would be called after the figures are reconciled.

“Mr chairman, we encountered cancellation in 17 LGAs and 53 polling units and 29,660 votes cancelled,” the Bauchi returning officer said.
Osita Chidoka of the PDP raised concern about the legality of elections in various states especially in the Northern part of the Nigeria.
He called on the INEC chairman to make a projection on the card readers used during the election processes in this state and all parts of the country. He also said the party had written a petition on the issue and addressed to the chairman of INEC.
