More than 90 days since Uduak Akpan, the killer of Miss Iniubong Umoren was sentenced to death, no mention is made about appeal.

Akpan killed Umoren, the job seeker in April 2022. After legal battle, he was found guilty of murder and got death by hanging and for rape, life imprisonment  by Akwa Ibom State High Court, Uyo presided by Justice Bassey Nkanang on August 4, 2022.

However, Barr. Inibehe Effiong, the human rights lawyer says he has shwon interest in the late Iniubong’s case as a result of the reported initial delay by the relevant authorities to take swift action into disclosing the full evidence and culprits involved in the murder of the young lady.

Announcing this on his Facebook page on Sunday, Effiong said he had sought and obtained the permission of the family members of the late Iniubong to follow up the case.

According to him, he would follow up the case until justice is being done, and the culprits involved in the heartless murder the lady are being made to face the full weight of the law in accordance  with the crime they have committed.

“I have discussed extensively with the sister of the late Iniubong Umoren. I will follow up to ensure justice is done. From all indications the family has reasonable basis to be worried and agitated about the way the case has been handled so far.

‘‘We will collaborate with the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant authorities to resolve areas of apprehensions…” Akwa Ibom-born lawyer said.

Effiong pledged his full involvement and support to dig out the entire truth of the matter.

“Whatever I can do in this regard, it will be done. Necessary actions and steps will be taken to ensure that there is a proper investigation and proper prosecution of the culprits,” he assured.
