US Instagram has discontinued the transmission of a fake video clip that trended days ago meant to tarnish the image of a popular Nigerian church and bring it on a collision course with the political class.
In the video clip, the producer remixed the voice of Dr. Daniel K. Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Worldwide, in a prayer session in addition to MFM song ministration to show photoshopped political leaders falling off a collapsed podium during a campaign rally.
Recall that on Monday, January 28, leaders including the state’s governorship candidate, Isah Muhammad Galaudi of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jeda local government area of Kebbi reportedly fell off and sustained various degrees of injuries when a podium collapsed.
The video which was launched into Instagram with 279 million followers worldwide to give an impression that the church is opposing PDP or is supporting another generated adverse criticisms from the viewers.
However, the church rolled out a DISCLAIMER, saying “It has come to our notice that there is a particular video clip where the voice of our Father-in-the-Lord, the General Overseer of MFM Ministries, Worldwide and MFM Song ministration were used against a particular political party.”
“This is to tell the general public that the person that did the video is not a member of MFM and do not have our permission to use our material for such an act. Therefore, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries hereby dissociate herself from that video. It does not originate from us. We are not against any political party in any way. God bless you.”
The church, therefore, warned individuals or bodies against dragging the church into partisan politics, threatening to sue any committing any act of misdemeanor against it.
As a sign of remorse, the video producer greeted with furore regretted, “Three days ago, I did a sensitive video about MFM and PDP rally in Kebbi. I want to officially apologise to everybody including the man of God. I am sorry for using your voice. I won’t do anything that will cause any inconvenience or embarrassment to you.”
“I promise that this won’t repeat itself again. MFM is not supporting any political party. It is immature work on my part. To MFM, I am sorry. To PDP, I am sorry. This won’t repeat itself,” he added.
MFM founded as a Pentecostal ministry with headquarters in Yaba, Lagos has since its establishment in 1989 been facing some libelous publications in recent times.
