A 24-year-old jealous man from Ikot Ubo Village in Oruk Anam Local Government Area has allegedly murdered a three-month-old expectant mother from Ndot Ikot Ukpong Etor in Oruk Anam of Akwa Ibom in broad daylight.

One Clement Esitmbom, an ex-lover to one Blessing trailed her to the would-be husband’s house in Ukanafun Edem Inyang Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area, where he attacked and killed her.

Investigation reveals that the jealous man had allegedly on two occasions impregnated her, and on those occasions she lost her pregnancy due to severe assault and battery meted to her.

A reliable source confided in the reporter that when the deceased could no longer bear the battering from Clement, she decided to quit the relationship since bride price was not paid.

The source further said the deceased later hooked up with another man from Ukanafun Edem Inyang community, and the man approached her family for introduction with plans to do the traditional marriage later this year.

It was viewed that the plan by the deceased to marry another man did not go down well with the alleged murderer who had vowed to eliminate her from the earth.

After months of hatching his evil act, he traced the deceased to the compound of her new lover, Ekpeno Sunday in Ukanafun Edem Inyang, where he perpetrated the ignominious act.

Witnesses informed this reporter that when Clement had laid ambush and upon sighting his ex-lover, he brought out knife and stabbed her on the shoulder.

It was reported that the shouts of the deceased attracted the attention of the would-be mother-in-law and upon her inquiry to knowing what happened, the suspected murderer stabbed her thrice at the back.

The source further informed that the deceased, in a pool of her blood, tried to prevent Clement from killing her innocent would- be mother-in-law, prompting the man to use the knife to slit her throat and she slumped and died before she could get medical attention.

The killing sparked anger between the youths of Ukanafun Edem Inyang and Ndot Ikot Ukpong Etor Villages as they moved to retaliate the killing.

It took timely intervention of leaders of the two communities and men of the Nigeria Police to calm the tension while the alleged murderer escaped to an unknown destination.

A visit to Clement’s family house showed that he had a well-guarded plan to commit the murder, since he reportedly sold his pigs, motorcycle and landed property.

When our reporter contacted the State Police Public Relations, , SP Odiko MacDon, he said that he was yet to get information about the crime, and pledged to reach out as soon as he has clue about it.

In a related development, a 30-year-old woman from Abiakpo Ikot Osom in Abak Local Government Area has dumped her new born baby in a pit toilet.

However, the male child has been rescued alive and has been named “miracle.”

The mother who is living with his husband has not come to term with the circumstances that led her to take such action even as she is in a stable mind as at the time this reporter visited the village.
