Lagos State opened the womb of 2021 with 642 COVID-19 spike, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed on Friday.
Nigeria recorded 1,074 new confirmed cases and five deaths from 14 states including Federal Capital Territory.
This is as Akwa Ibom State has recorded 437 cases while 385 persons have treated and discharged.
“On the 1st of January 2021, 1074 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“The 1074 new cases are reported from 15 states- Lagos (642), Kaduna (92), Rivers (78), FCT (66), Gombe (66), Kano (35), Ogun (31), Katsina (22), Plateau (20).
“Abia (7), Niger (4), Oyo (4), Akwa Ibom (3), Delta (2), and Osun (2),” NCDC tweeted.
According to the health agency “Till date, 88587 cases have been confirmed, 74373 cases have been discharged and 1294 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC) activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.”
It stated “Our discharges today include 459 community recoveries in Lagos State and 156 community recoveries in Katsina State managed in line with guidelines.”
To check the pandemic spikes, NCDC urges “Wear a face mask; Avoid large gatherings Observe physical distancing; Wash hands frequently with soap under running water.”
