The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a landlord over an alleged violent assault on a female tenant, leaving her hospitalised with serious injuries.
The incident, which occurred along Hospital Road in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom reportedly involved a dispute between the victim, Rachael, 31, and her landlord, identified as Hope Henry, which escalated into violence.
The lady, Rachael Ndop from Ukanafun Local Government Area was assaulted by the man identified as Hope Ekong, from Abak Local Government Area because she rejected his advances
Spokesperson for the command, DSP Timfon John confirmed that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a suspect for alleged assault occasioning harm following a reported domestic dispute at Hospital Road.
According to the release, ‘‘On 31st March 2026, at about 6:45 p.m., one Rachael, female, aged 31 years, reported at the Police Station that her landlord, identified as Hope Henry, male, allegedly assaulted her during an argument over a misunderstanding.

‘‘Preliminary information indicates that in the course of the altercation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a sharp object and attacked the victim. As a result of the assault, she sustained injuries to her head and left arm, with significant blood loss.
‘‘Upon receipt of the report, Police operatives swiftly moved into action. The victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility where she is currently receiving treatment, while the suspect was promptly arrested.
‘‘The Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the incident,’’ it stated.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command strongly condemns all forms of violence, particularly acts capable of causing grievous bodily harm. Members of the public are advised to always seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and report grievances to appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence.
The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges residents to promptly report suspicious activities or threats to the nearest police station.
